I had been a sufferer of long COVID for about 18 months…
‘My sense of smell and taste disappeared, which then came back horrendously distorted – I could barely tolerate cooking, and I was very restricted as to what I could eat. I was also suffering from fatigue, brain fog, my arthritis had flared up badly and I was taking heavy-duty painkillers along with a continued historical anxiety and depression.
With the help of James and Kirsty, a balance of supplements, and learning about nutrition and the importance of gut health, it has radically changed my life. I actually believe that maybe having Long COVID did me a favour because it has set me on a completely different life path.’

Hi, I am James.
I have over 10 years of experience as a healthcare professional and in 2020 became one of only 90 fully certified functional medicine practitioners in the UK. For the past 4 years I have dedicated my work to helping people with Long COVID, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and MCAS regain control of their energy, resilience and overall quality of life.
Through a tailored approach that combines nutrition, lifestyle changes and targeted use of supplements, I support patients in addressing the underlying causes of their symptoms — not just masking them. My mission is to guide people back to a place where they can feel strong, balanced and hopeful for the future.
‘I was struggling with a lot of symptoms from chronic fatigue…
…itching all over my skin, difficulty living my life daily, mast cell activation syndrome, a lot of food intolerances, and many many more…
I am so incredibly grateful for the way I feel now; I have managed to recover a large percentage and I have adopted so many healthy habits in my life and sometimes I have the feeling that I am building day by day even a better self from the one that I was before even getting sick.’
Mariana, 35.
How Does Functional Medicine Work?
Many people find that functional medicine helps them regain energy, improve their health, tolerate food better, and reduce inflammation — often after reaching a dead end in conventional healthcare. Traditional medicine is great at controlling symptoms and saving lives in acute situations, but it often lacks systems that truly support people in restoring their health.
Functional medicine takes a holistic approach to you. It identifies the underlying causes of your health challenges and gives you the tools you need to build a stronger, more balanced, and energized life, rather than just treating the symptoms.
Conditions and Health Problems Which Functional Medicine Can Help With
MCAS
Mast Cell Activation Syndrome is a poorly understood condition which has only recently started to become acknowledged by mainstream healthcare due to the phenomenom of Long COVID. Symptoms can be widespread including skin rashes, brain fog and anxiety, palpitations and gut symptoms. Medications such as antihistamines are now being used more commonly to control symptoms, however, the causes for mast cell sensitisation must be identified and addressed in order to reduce hyperreactivity and excessive histamine production long term.
Energy and Chronic Fatigue
Fatigue is a symptom that can show up in a wide number of health problems and can have different causes. Therefore, we need to cast a wide net and take a truly holistic approach to find the root of the problem. Common offenders include mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, adrenal dysfunction, mould or heavy metal toxicity… Functional medicine can provide an effective method to restore energy levels so that you can start living fully again.
Gut Health, IBS and SIBO
Problems like bloating, constipation, loose stools, and food intolerances can affect the entire body. Many people are often overgeneralised with a diagnosis of IBS and told to “just live with it.” Often, the symptoms are caused by underlying conditions like SIBO or “leaky gut syndrome,” which can be improved with the right guidance.
Immune Health and Chronic Inflammation
Inflammation plays a causative role in nearly every health condition we may encounter. Finding the cause of the inflammation and immune activation, however, is not often so simple.
Functional medicine practitioners are experts in detecting what may be causing inflammation in the body and how to address it so that a movement to homeostasis and resolution can be permitted.
Brain Fog, Anxiety and Cognitive Function
Symtpoms such as anxiety and depression can have psychological causes for which mental health professionals can assist us with. However, there can also be physical causes for symptoms like these in addition to brain fog, poor concentration and mental performance.
The brain is intricately connected to overall energy production and can be sigificantly affected by immune activity, inflammation, gut health and mitochondrial function.
Skin Health, Rashes and Dryness
The skin is often a reflection of what is happening on the inside of our body. While dermatologists typically take an outside-in approach to treat symptoms, an inside-out approach can help you to find and address the cause of your skin problems.
One of the most common causes of acne in adulthood for example is low stomach acid. Conditions such as eczema and psoriasis often also have connections to gut health and inflammation. Nutrient deficiency can show up cracks in the corner of the lips, dry skin and rigid nails.
Functional Medicine and Long COVID
Functional Medicine and its multifaceted approach is uniquely positioned to support those suffering from Long COVID and Chronic Fatigue. I have been working with individuals since the first appearance of post-COVID issues in 2020 and have helped many to recover and get back to normal life.
Functional Medicine Appointments
All appointments are conducted via online video calls from the comfort of your home, with any necessary lab tests being sent via an efficient home delivery service. A range of different appointments are offered to meet you are your individual needs.
Functional Lab Testing
Many of our patients request additional lab testing to help them to find the underlying causes of their health challenges. We have collaborated with a number of globally renowned labs to provide cutting edge tests; many of which can be completed with simple home test kits.
Supplement Advice
Nutritional supplements can be effective when we are attempting to achieve a specific goal with a protocol over a set period of time before returning to sustainable health endeavours. However many people get overwhelmed with the amount of different options and often end up with taking more and more products over time without someone to guide them on a specific plan or time frame.
Supplements are sourced for you from reputable and professional dispensaries who stock high quality products to ensure the desired effects are attained.
‘I was initially having trouble with eczema that was affecting my head, neck and arms…
